The services sector is becoming a key driver of sustainable economic growth and structural transformation in African economies. The World Bank estimates that the sector accounts for 47 percent of gross domestic product and 37 percent of employment in average in African countries, while statistics from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) indicate a 6.6 percent average growth in total imports and exports for the sector in 2013.
