The World Trade Organization’s Tenth Ministerial Conference gets under way today in Nairobi – the first time the meetings have been held in Africa. Fourteen years ago, the WTO launched its Doha Round of multilateral trade negotiations. The 9/11 atrocities had occurred just two months before. Those events strengthened the resolve of WTO members to show that economies with varied priorities and interests could come together with a shared purpose.
